Reloading Supplies

Reloading is the process of individually making firearm cartridges by hand rather than buying pre-made cartridges. This involves buying all of the necessary parts separately and then putting them together. We carry all of the parts and equipment that you will need for reloading such as brass cases, bullets, calipers and bullet measuring devices, case care and trimmers, dies and parts, powder, presses, primer accessories, scales and powder accessories, and shell holders and shell plates.

Traditionally, the term handloading was used to mean individually manufacturing cartridges when all new parts are used, while reloading meant that previously fired brass cartridges would be used with new bullets, primers, and powder. However, today the terms handloading and reloading are often used interchangeably.

There are several different reasons for reloading. One reason is that reloading fired cases can save a shooter or hunter a significant amount of money. Another reason that people engage in reloading is for increased precision and accuracy. Reloading using a casing that has been fire formed to a specific firearm will result in greater accuracy.

A Press is one of the most basic pieces of equipment that is needed for reloading. A press is used to push the cases into the dies. A standard die made of harden steel will require the case to be lubricated, while carbide dies have a ring of tungsten carbide, which does not require lubrication. The shellholders, which must be the proper size to fit both the press and calibers, are used to hold the cases in place as they are forced into and out of dies.

A quality scale will also be important for reloading. This will ensure that you avoid loading the cartridges too near or over the maximum safe load. Using a powder scale with a powder measure can help to calibrate the machine for better accuracy. A powder trickler provides the most accurate measure by measuring a charge directly into the powder scale.

Priming tools are used to insert new primers into resized and de-capped cases. While this can be combined in the press step, a priming tool often leads to a more consistent primer setting depth.

Since it is possible for cases to stretch during firing, it is sometimes often necessary to trim the cases down. If a case becomes too long, it can become a safety hazard because of improper headspace and the possibility of increased pressure. For safety reasons, only quality bullets should be used so that they will engage properly in rifling and fly a straight path. Some hunters and shooters will use special devices to measure and weigh each bullet before using it. They will then select only the bullets with the most consistent weight and measurements.
